CONTROL SYSTEM FOR AB3 & AB8 GAS COMPRESSOR STATION

Plant description

 

  • AB3 Gas compression station consists of n° 1 Gas turbine Compressor.
  • AB8 Gas compression station consists of n° 3 Gas turbine Compressor (two stage).
  • Each Gas turbine compressor have a dedicated control system configured for:
  • Automatic start/stop sequence
  • Manual start/stop sequence
  • Emergency start/stop sequence
  • Control function
  • Antisurge control
  • Performance control
  • Overspeed protection
  • Vibration protection

The existing n° 3 compressor control panels located in AB3 station will remain as it is. The n° 3 Gas turbine control panels in AB3 station will be replaced with n° 3 new control system based on Rockwell Automation PLC and Supervisory computers.

The existing compressor control panel and gas turbine control panel located in AB8 station will be replaced with n° 1 new compressor control system and n° 1 Gas turbine control system, both based on Rockwell Automation PLC and Supervisory computers

The actual functionality, control values and performance of Gas turbine compressor must be guaranteed and maintained as it is.

 

PROJECT  DEVELOPMENT

 

SSE carried out the preliminary survey and collected all the basic engineering information for replacement of existing control system cabinets. SSE developed detailed engineering, construction, SW configuration and test for new control system cabinets. Existing control panels in control room has been removed and replaced with new CCS and UCP cabinets. Complete upgrade of AB8 compression station control system has been implemented, including the anti-surge algorithms and performance controller of centrifugal compressor. SSE technicians operated during installation, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, up to start-up of the complete station, while SSE teacher trained the Customer’s operation and maintenance teams. CCS and UCP cabinets features a Rockwell Automation PLC ControlLogix with complete “redundant” HOT STAND-BY CPU architecture and simplex I/O. All installation revamping activity has been executed without interruption of normal station production. In order to satisfy this requirement, shut-down of one gas turbine for each time has been designed and managed during complete installation and start-up phase. The new control system in control room is equipped with n° 2 operator workstation,  and n° 1 engineering workstation for AB8 station, n° 3 operator workstation,  and n° 1 engineering workstation for AB3 station in multi-unit configuration based on Factory Talk supervisory, RS Logix configuration software

Type  of Project:

Mechanical and electrical upgrade of the existing control into an integrated control system for the Gas Turbine compressor trains.

The new control system shall guarantee a very safe, robust, reliable, durable and cost effective means for Gas turbine trains operation

 


Scope of supply:

Design, Engineering, construction SW configuration and test of new unit control panel (UCP) for Gas turbine compressor trains.

Installation, Commissioning  and  start-up activity for UCP’s in control rooms.
